Bio:
I graduated from Cairo University, Civil Engineering Department in the top 1% of my class with honors in 2003. I got appointed as a Teaching and Research Assistant in the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Research Laboratory (SMFRL) where I was able to finish my Masters Thesis on the Dynamic Characterization of Giza Sand using Resonant Column Device. I got the Presidential Fellowship from MIT in 2005 and continued as a Research Assistant with Prof Andrew J. Whittle the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Head. I got my Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2010. My thesis was about Wellbore Instability Mechanisms in Clays. I used sophisticated constitutive models and the Finite Element Software ABAQUS to perform numerical analysis of wellbores in soft formations. That gave me the chance to work in the Rock Characterization Group in the Innovation, Research, and Development Department of Shell International Exploration and Production. I learned a lot about wellbore stability, pore pressure prediction, and basin modeling. I returned back to the mother ship in 2012 and took up a faculty position in the SMFRL in Cairo University. I got promoted to Associate Professor in 2017 then Professor in 2022. My research interests are mainly the employment of computational geomechanics to solve important geotechnical engineering problems, especially soil-structure interaction, dam and offshore structure stability, soil anisotropic behavior, land subscidence, and tunneling induced deformations.
